So, the mythological significance of the constellations is very important in astrological calculations.
What is a constellation?
According to Vedic astrology, the group of stars in the sky is called Constellation. In ancient texts like the Vedas, special information about constellations is also given. The constellation has the potential to change the life of any person with its influence. That is why people worship the planets related to constellations and keep fast, etc. in order to get favour of the constellations. The number of constellations is described as 27 in the ancient scriptures.
Mythological significance of Constellations
In the Puranas of India, these 27 constellations are identified as daughters of ‘Daksha Prajapati’. These stars were married to the Moon. Rohini was the most loved of all the queens of the Moon. Due to that reason, the moon had to face a curse. Stars have had their own distinct significance since the Vedic period.
According to the Puranas, the ancient sages had divided the sky into 12 parts. The 12 parts are called 12 different zodiac signs – Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces.
To make the analysis easier, the sages divided the sky into another 27 parts, after which about 2.25 constellations fall within one zodiac. The moon moves in its orbit and completes one round of the Earth in 27.3 days. According to Vedic astrology, the moon travels about one part (constellation) every day. Constellation is used to make an accurate analysis and accurate predictions in Vedic astrology.
By analyzing the constellation, a person’s thinking power, insight, and characteristics can be observed. Even the constellation helps in calculating the person’s Dasha duration. Vedic astrologers use the concept of the constellation for detailed astrological analysis and accurate predictions.
Difference between Constellation and Zodiac
According to Vedic astrology, if you divide the sky into 12 equal parts, each part is called a zodiac. But, if you divide the sky into 27 equal parts, each part is called a constellation.
As we all know that the sky is measured by 360 degrees like any circular shape. If we divide 360 degrees into 12 parts, we get a zodiac sign of 30 degrees. Similarly, for constellations, if we divide 360 degrees by 27 parts, then a constellation comes as 13.33 degrees. Therefore, the total number of stars is 27 and the total number of zodiac signs is 12. According to analysis, 2.25 constellations fall in any zodiac sign.

Why should I know about constellation?
According to Vedic astrology, the constellation in which the moon is located at the time of birth is the birth constellation of that person. If you have enough information about the birth constellation of a person, then an accurate prediction can be made about that person.
