Paella, like most traditional foods, is surrounded by the discussion about how to prepare it, where it comes from, and even what it is. For ages, though, it has had a place of dignity and usefulness in Spanish homes.

What exactly is Paella?

Paella is a popular and well-known international dish. It’s a Spanish rice dish that’s frequently served with seafood. It’s traditionally baked in a big pan with a thin, round base. Saffron and sweet paprika are frequently used in this meal. Cooking it the traditional method can be difficult, time-consuming, and inefficient. It’s difficult not to get hungry when you see a big pan full of this delicious food! This is what deliciousness looks like: the bright orangey-gold glow of the rice with juicy prawns or chicken!

Essential Paella Ingredients:

Rice, saffron, chicken, and veggies are the key ingredients in every paella recipe. Ingredients vary based on the style of paella and the region in which it is prepared. This simple paella recipe calls for the following ingredients:

Products – Onion, bell pepper garlic, tomatoes, parsley, frozen peas

Spices – Bay leaf, paprika, saffron, salt, and pepper are some of the spices used.

Saffron – It should be purchased with a good grade.

Seafood – Jumbo shrimp, mussels, calamari

Chicken Thighs – It’s best to cook thighs to breasts in the recipe.

Olive Oil – Spanish olive oil is recommended, although any excellent quality olive oil would suffice.

Sauté:

In a medium-sized skillet, heat the olive oil. Together, sauté the onion, bell peppers, and garlic! Combine the chopped tomato, bay leaf, paprika, saffron, salt, and pepper in a large mixing bowl. Cook, stirring occasionally, for a few minutes!

Add White Wine:

Cook for 10 minutes

Add Chicken & Rice:

Cook for 1 minute after adding the chopped parsley.

Add Broth:

Slowly pour the broth around the pan, jiggling the pan to ensure an even covering of rice. Bring the liquid to a boil! Reduce the heat to a low setting! During the cooking process, give the pan a little shake!

Cook Uncovered:

Simmer paella uncovered for 15-18 minutes, and then drop the shrimp, mussels, and calamari into the mixture, top with peas, and cook for another 5 minutes (without stirring). Keep an eye on the rice at the top to see if the majority of the liquid has been absorbed.

Cover and let rest:

Turn off the heat and cover the pan! Cover the lid with a kitchen towel and set it aside for 10 minutes!

Serve:

Garnish with lemon slices and fresh parsley! Serve!

5 Tips for cooking Paella:

  • Use a real paella pan
  • Once the liquid has reached a boil, do not stir it.
  • Use the right heat
  • Don’t cover the pan
  • •        Paella is best eaten straight from the pan.

It’d be a lot of fun at your next BBQ. You don’t need much else to serve with it, but if you’re feeling fancy, you might create a green salad.

So, are you all set for the bash? Make a call to your buddies and prepare Paella!
