Grilled Cheese Sandwich is a very common name in the United States among food lovers. It is a toasted sandwich made with varieties of cheese on the bread. It is prepared with butter on a griddle or sandwich toaster until the cheese melts and the bread gets golden brown.

Origination of the recipe

The concept of Grilled Cheese Sandwich is very old – almost of early the 1900s. People have been combining recipes with bread and cheese for centuries. In ancient Rome, people used to prepare Sandwiches with melted cheese on bread. Currently, this recipe has grown much more popular in the United States.

Grilled Cheese Sandwich became widely accepted in the US during the great depression. We can acknowledge from the government cookbooks that the navy cooks used the technique of broiling to fill cheese in sandwiches during World War II.

8 slices sourdough bread

Preparation

Spread 3 tablespoons of butter on 1 side of the bread slices. Toast the bread in an electric griddle in medium heat until the bread becomes golden brown. Keep the butter side of the bread down while making the toast. Now, take a small bowl and mix onion paste, mayonnaise, manchego cheese, and 3 tablespoons of butter together.

Take another bowl and combine gruyere cheese, Monterey jack cheese, and cheddar cheese there. Put the sliced brie at the top toasted side of the 4 bread slices to construct the sandwiches. Now, sprinkle some cheddar cheese mixture on the brie. The toasted side is now facing inward.

Spread the previously made mayonnaise mixture on the outer sides of every sandwich. Put the sandwiches in the electric griddle and cook until it turns golden brown colour. Keep the sandwiches 5-6 minutes on each side, by that time the cheese will get melted. Serve sandwiches immediately.

The Grilled Cheese Sandwich is often made in the sandwich toaster, and it is common to use in the United Kingdom. It is also called ‘jaffles’ in Australia. The Grilled Cheese Sandwich is often served as the prime meal or as a snack with a combination of salad, french fries, soup, etc.
